About Product

Azita Tablet 500 mg

Composition:

Each film-coated Azita tablet contains: Azithromycin USP 500 mg (as dihydrate).

Therapeutic Indications:

Azita (Azithromycin) is prescribed for patients with mild to moderate infections caused by specific strains of microorganisms. These special cases include:

  • Lower respiratory tract infections (acute bacterial bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia) where oral outpatient treatment is convenient for the patient, as well as for patients requiring initial intravenous therapy.

  • Upper respiratory tract infections (acute sinusitis, acute streptococcal pharyngitis/tonsillitis, and acute otitis media in children).

  • Uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections.

  • Sexually transmitted infections (uncomplicated urethritis and cervicitis).

  • High doses of antibiotics used for short periods to treat non-gonococcal urethritis may mask or delay symptoms characteristic of syphilis incubation, so all patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted urethritis or cervicitis should have confirmatory serological tests for syphilis and gonorrhea cultures. If these infections are confirmed, appropriate antibiotics should be added and further tests conducted.

  • Pelvic inflammatory disease in patients requiring initial intravenous therapy.

  • Trachoma and Chlamydia trachomatis-induced conjunctivitis in adults and children aged 12 months and older.

  • Prevention of Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare Complex (MAC) disease in adolescents and children aged 12 years and older.

Dosage and Administration:

Azita (Azithromycin) tablets and oral suspension can be taken with or without food, while capsules should be taken at least one hour before or two hours after meals.

Adults:

  • For all cases except those listed below, the usual dose is 500 mg once daily for 3 days. Alternatively, 500 mg on the first day followed by 250 mg once daily for 4 days.

  • For sexually transmitted urethritis and cervicitis: 1 g as a single dose.

  • For Chlamydia trachomatis conjunctivitis and trachoma: 1 g as a single dose or 1 g once weekly for 3 weeks.

  • Treatment of community-acquired pneumonia with ongoing IV therapy: 500 mg once daily for 7–10 days until the end of the treatment course.

  • Treatment of pelvic inflammatory diseases with ongoing IV therapy: 250 mg once daily for 7 days.

  • Prevention of disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) in HIV-infected adults: 1200 mg once weekly as a single dose, or combined with rifabutin at the recommended dose.

Children:

  • Used in children weighing less than 25 kg. Pediatric dose: 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days or alternatively, 10 mg/kg once on the first day followed by 5 mg/kg once daily for 2–5 days.

  • Treatment of Chlamydia trachomatis conjunctivitis and trachoma: 20 mg/kg as a single dose or once weekly for 3 weeks.

  • Prevention of disseminated MAC in HIV-infected children aged 12 years and older: 1200 mg once weekly as a single dose or combined with rifabutin as recommended.

  • Treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis and tonsillitis: 20 mg/kg once daily for 3 days with a total dose of 60 mg/kg. The daily dose should not exceed 500 mg (or 12.5 ml of reconstituted oral suspension).

  • Treatment of acute otitis media: total dose 30 mg/kg as a single dose or divided as 10 mg/kg for 3 days, or 10 mg/kg once on the first day followed by 5 mg/kg once daily for 2–5 days.

Pregnancy:

There is no sufficient and well-studied data on the use of azithromycin during pregnancy. Therefore, azithromycin should be prescribed only if the potential benefit outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.

Breastfeeding:

It is currently unknown whether azithromycin is excreted in breast milk. Azithromycin should only be used if no alternative medication is available.

Storage Conditions:

Store at temperatures below 30°C.
Protect from light and moisture.
If stored properly, the medication can be used until the indicated expiration date.
