For local antibacterial treatment of conjunctivitis caused by sensitive strains.
Each gram of solution contains 15 mg of azithromycin dihydrate, equivalent to 14.3 mg of azithromycin.
Azioptic 15 mg/g eye drops, solution in a single-dose container, is indicated for local antibacterial treatment of conjunctivitis caused by sensitive strains:
Purulent bacterial conjunctivitis in children (from birth to 17 years) and adolescents
Trachomatous conjunctivitis caused byChlamydia trachomatisin children (from birth to 17 years) and adolescents
Official guidelines for the appropriate use of antibacterial agents should be observed.
Adults: Instill one drop into the conjunctival sac twice daily, morning and evening, for three days. Treatment longer than three days is generally unnecessary.
Elderly: No dose adjustment needed.
Pediatric population: No dose adjustment needed.
Method of administration:
For instillation into the eye.
Patient advice:
Wash hands thoroughly before and after instillation.
Avoid touching the eye or eyelid with the tip of the single-dose container.
Discard the single-dose container immediately after use; do not store for later use.
Pregnancy: No expected effect on pregnancy due to minimal systemic exposure of azithromycin. Azioptic 15 mg/g eye drops may be used during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding: Limited data indicate azithromycin is excreted into breast milk but in very low doses and with low systemic bioavailability, so the amount ingested by the infant is negligible. Breastfeeding can continue during treatment.
Fertility: Animal studies do not indicate any effect of azithromycin on male or female fertility. Human data are unknown, but no effect is expected due to minimal systemic exposure.
Use the solution immediately after opening the single-dose container.
Discard the opened single-dose container immediately after first use.
Store at 2°C to 8°C in the original packaging, protected from light.
Keep single-dose containers in the package to protect from light.
