Althes syrup is used for the treatment of upper respiratory tract conditions accompanied by coughing, as well as other illnesses caused by the common cold.
Per 100 g:
Marshmallow root extract 5% – 4.9 g
Sucrose – 64 g
Ethanol 60° – 1 g

The softening, coating, and expectorant effects of the preparation are due to the high concentration of mucilaginous substances extracted from marshmallow root.
Upon hydrolysis of marshmallow root, galacturonic acid, galactose, glucose, rhamnose, and arabinose are formed.
The mucilaginous substances in the preparation form a protective layer on inflamed or highly sensitive areas, promoting their rapid regeneration.
