Cordarone tablets help stabilize heart rhythm, are effective during episodes, and should be used as directed by a doctor.
Amiodarone
Class III antiarrhythmic drug
Life-threatening and severe cardiac rhythm disturbances (tachycardia)
Other cardiac rhythm disorders (tachycardia) when other medications are ineffective
Treatment of attacks of severe cardiac rhythm disturbances
Coronary artery disease and/or impaired function of the left ventricle
Allergy to amiodarone or any other component of the medication
Certain conduction disturbances resulting in slow heart function (only in patients with a pacemaker)
Thyroid dysfunction
Use of certain medications that may worsen heart function when combined with Cordarone
Pregnancy (except in emergency situations)
Lactation
Initial dose: Standard regimen: one 200 mg tablet 3 times a day for 8–10 days. Then the dose should be reduced to 200 mg twice daily.
Maintenance dose: A low effective dose is prescribed individually for each patient. For most patients, 100 mg (one 200 mg tablet every other day) or 200 mg per day is sufficient.
In rare cases, a higher dose may be required.
The daily maintenance dose should be regularly reviewed, especially if it exceeds 200 mg per day.
Renal or hepatic dysfunction and advanced age do not require dose adjustment.
