Pyridoxine hydrochloride
Pyridoxine hydrochloride is used in cases of:
Hypo- and avitaminosis B6.
Toxicosis of pregnant women, atherosclerosis, anemias (radiculitis, neuritis, neuralgias, parkinsonism, Little's disease).
Depression of involutional age, acute and chronic hepatitis, neurodermatitis, psoriasis, exudative diathesis.
Also prescribed for sea and air sickness, Meniere's disease.
Furthermore, Pyridoxine hydrochloride prevents or reduces toxic effects (especially polyneuritis) during treatment with anti-tuberculosis drugs.
Pyridoxine hydrochloride is administered intramuscularly, intravenously, and subcutaneously, especially if internal administration of the medicine is impossible due to impaired absorption in the intestine.
For prophylaxis of B6 hypovitaminosis: The daily dose for adults is 0.002–0.005 g, for children – 0.002 g per day.
General therapeutic dose: The daily therapeutic dose for adults, administered in 1–2 doses, is 0.05–0.1 g; for children – 0.02 g. The course of treatment is 30 days and 14 days, respectively.
For parkinsonism: 2 ml of 5% solution is injected I/M daily (course – 20–25 days, repeat course in 2–3 months). According to another scheme, 5% solution is injected I/M at an initial daily dose of 50–100 mg, and then the dose is increased daily by 50 mg and brought up to 300–400 mg per day (single dose). In this case, therapy is carried out in 12–15-day courses.
For the treatment of depression of involutional age: Pyridoxine hydrochloride-Darnitsa is injected intramuscularly 200 mg per day.
For the therapy of sideroblastic anemia: The medicine is injected I/M 100 mg (0.1 g) twice a week (in this case, the use of folic acid, riboflavin, and vitamin B12 is recommended).
To prevent neuritis and other complications from Phthivazid and other Isonicotinic acid hydrazide derivatives: Pyridoxine hydrochloride is prescribed 0.005–0.01 g per day.
Skin-allergic reactions are possible.
