Hydrocortisone eye ointment is used for allergic eye diseases and inflammatory conditions of the anterior segment of the eye, in the absence of corneal epithelial damage.
Active ingredient: 15 mg Hydrocortisone acetate per 3g of ointment
Excipients: Hard paraffin, cetyl alcohol, white soft paraffin (petrolatum)
Hydrocortisone eye ointment is used for the treatment of:
Allergic eye conditions (such as blepharitis, eyelid dermatitis, conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis)
Inflammatory diseases of the anterior segment of the eye in the absence of corneal epithelial damage (e.g., conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, blepharitis)
Chemical and thermal burns of the eyes (after full epithelial healing of the cornea)
Apply topically. A strip of ointment (1–2 cm) should be placed behind the lower eyelid 2–3 times daily.
The duration of treatment is usually 1–2 weeks. Treatment may be extended based on a doctor's recommendation.
Do not use in cases of:
Viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva (e.g., smallpox virus, chickenpox virus)
Herpes simplex virus infections of the eye
Fungal infections of the eye
Mycobacterial infections of the eye
Acute purulent bacterial eye infections
Individual hypersensitivity to any component of the medication
Ocular tuberculosis
Glaucoma
Trachoma
During vaccination
Corneal or conjunctival epithelial damage
Pregnancy:
Systemically absorbed hydrocortisone is classified asCategory Ain Australia. Although no problems have been reported with ophthalmic use in humans, well-controlled studies are lacking.
Animal studies (in mice and rabbits) have shown that corticosteroids may cause fetal abnormalities including cleft palate, resorption, and craniofacial deformities.
Infants born to mothers who received significant doses of corticosteroids during pregnancy should be monitored for signs ofhypoadrenalism.
Lactation:
No adverse effects have been reported in humans.
No studies have been conducted to assess the effect of this medication on the ability to drive or operate machinery.
Store in the original packaging in a dry place at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
Keep out of reach of children.
