Composition

• 5 mg/0.6 mL multi-dose prefilled pen

• Active ingredient: Tirzepatide (dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist)

Indications

Mounjaro is a prescription medication for adults with type 2 diabetes, used to control blood sugar (glucose) levels.
It is also indicated for the treatment of adults with obesity or overweight (BMI ≥ 27 kg/m²) who have weight-related health problems such as:

• Prediabetes

• Type 2 diabetes

• Hypertension

• Dyslipidemia

Each pen contains four fixed doses, sufficient for one month of weekly injections.

Mechanism of Action

• Lowers blood glucose levels

• Helps the pancreas produce more insulin

• Reduces glucose production by the liver

• Slows gastric emptying

• Prolongs feelings of fullness

• May reduce food intake

This mechanism supports stable blood glucose control throughout the day.

Side Effects

Most common side effects (≥5% of patients):

• Nausea

• Diarrhea

• Decreased appetite

• Vomiting

• Constipation

• Dyspepsia

• Abdominal pain

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

• Signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing

Contact your doctor if you experience:

• Severe stomach problems

• Gallbladder problems with symptoms

• Stomach pain after eating

• Kidney problems (reduced or absent urination)

• Swelling of the ankles

• Fatigue or shortness of breath

Contraindications:

• Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)

• Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN 2)

• Allergy to tirzepatide

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have a history of pancreatic or kidney disease

• Consult your doctor if pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding

• May reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives

Administration

• Inject once weekly in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm

• Administer on the same day each week

• Each pen contains four fixed doses (one weekly dose = one pen for one month)

Dosage for Type 2 Diabetes

• Starting dose: 2.5 mg subcutaneous injection once weekly

• After 4 weeks: Increase to 5 mg once weekly

• If additional glycemic control is needed: Increase by 2.5 mg at intervals of at least 4 weeks

• Maximum dose: 15 mg subcutaneous injection once weekly

• Do not change the dose without your doctor’s instruction

Storage

• Unused pen: Store in the refrigerator at 2–8°C (Do not freeze)

• Unopened pen: Can be used until expiration date if refrigerated

• After first use: Store at room temperature (≤30°C) for up to 30 days, away from heat and sunlight

• Discard after 30 days, even if medication remains
