Composition

• 15 mg/0.6 mL multi-dose pre-filled pen

• Active ingredient: Tirzepatide (dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist)

Indications

Mounjaro is a prescription medication for adults with type 2 diabetes. It is used to control blood glucose levels.

It is also indicated for the treatment of adults with obesity or overweight (BMI ≥ 27 kg/m²) who have weight-related health problems, such as:

• Prediabetes

• Type 2 diabetes

• Hypertension

• Dyslipidemia

Each pen contains four fixed doses (4 doses × 15 mg = 60 mg of tirzepatide), sufficient for one month of once-weekly injections.

Mechanism of Action

Mounjaro is the first dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist that works by:

• Reducing blood glucose levels

• Supporting the pancreas to produce more insulin

• Decreasing glucose production by the liver

• Slowing gastric emptying

• Prolonging the feeling of fullness

• Reducing food intake

These effects help maintain stable blood glucose levels throughout the day.

Side Effects

Common side effects (≥5% of patients):

• Nausea

• Diarrhea

• Decreased appetite

• Vomiting

• Constipation

• Dyspepsia

• Abdominal pain

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

• Signs of allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing

Contact your doctor if you experience:

• Severe stomach problems

• Gallbladder problems with symptoms

• Stomach pain after eating

• Kidney issues (reduced or absent urination)

• Swelling of ankles or legs

• Fatigue or shortness of breath

Contraindications:

• Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)

• Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2 (MEN 2)

• Allergy to tirzepatide

Warnings:

• Inform your doctor if you have a history of pancreatic or kidney disease

• Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding

• May reduce the effectiveness of contraceptive pills

Administration

• Administer a subcutaneous injection once weekly into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm at any time of day

• Use the same day each week

• Each pen contains four fixed doses, enough for one month

Dosage Information

• Starting dose: 2.5 mg subcutaneously once weekly

• After 4 weeks: increase to 5 mg subcutaneously once weekly

• If additional glycemic control is required: increase by 2.5 mg increments every 4 weeks, up to a maximum of 15 mg once weekly

• Do not change your dose without your doctor’s approval

Storage Conditions

• Unused pen: store in the refrigerator at 2–8°C; do not freeze

• Unopened pen remains valid until the expiration date when refrigerated

• After first use: store at room temperature ≤30°C for up to 30 days, away from heat and sunlight

• Discard the pen 30 days after first use, even if medication remains
