An antiviral medicine effective against Herpes Simplex virus (HSV) types I and II and Varicella Zoster.
Virosil is used for the treatment of skin infections caused by herpes simplex (cold sores), including primary and recurrent genital herpes and herpes labialis (cold sores on the lips).
Do not use Virosil if:
• An allergic reaction (rash, local pain, or swelling) develops during the use of Virosil; stop using the medicine and inform your doctor.
• You are allergic to acyclovir, valacyclovir (a type of antiviral medicine), propylene glycol, or any of the other excipients of this medicine; do not use this product.
Take special care when using Virosil in the following situations:
• Application of Virosil to areas such as the mouth, eyes, or vagina is not recommended, as this may cause irritation. Take special care to avoid accidental contact with the eyes.
• Oral forms of acyclovir should be considered if you have severe immunodeficiency (e.g. AIDS or bone marrow transplantation).
• If you have this type of condition, you should consult a doctor for the treatment of any infection.
• Cetostearyl alcohol contained in Virosil may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).
• Due to its special base, Virosil must not be diluted or used to dilute other medicines.
If any of these warnings apply to you, even if they occurred in the past, consult your doctor.
Pregnancy:Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
Virosil should be used during pregnancy only if the expected benefit outweighs the potential risks. If you become pregnant during treatment, consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
Lactation:During breastfeeding, the amount of Virosil cream that passes to the infant through breast milk is negligible.
Virosil may cause skin irritation due to the propylene glycol it contains.
Virosil may cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis due to the cetostearyl alcohol it contains.
Use with other medicine:Virosil should not be mixed with other creams or ointments. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are currently taking or have recently taken any medicines.
Use Virosil 5 times a day at approximately 4-hour intervals, omitting the night dose.
Apply Virosil to the affected area as soon as symptoms or signs of infection appear (redness or early signs of the disease). Treatment can also be started at later stages (blisters or fluid-filled vesicles).
For herpes labialis, treatment should continue for at least 4 days, and for genital herpes for 5 days. If there is no improvement, treatment may be extended up to 10 days.
Apply a small amount of Virosil to the affected area.
If you think the effect of Virosil is too strong or too weak, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Side effects are not expected. However, gastrointestinal effects (nausea and vomiting) and neurological effects (headache and confusion) have been reported when repeated doses of acyclovir were accidentally taken over several days. Acyclovir can be removed from the body by haemodialysis (a blood-cleansing procedure). If you use more Virosil than you should, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
If you forget to use Virosil:Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you stop treatment:Do not stop using the medicine without consulting your doctor.
