What is Dermiset and what is it used for?
Dermiset is a combination of a medium-acting dermocorticoid — triamcinolone acetonide — and a keratolytic agent — salicylic acid.
Active substances: triamcinolone acetonide and salicylic acid.
Excipients: ethanol, sodium hydroxide/hydrochloric acid, purified water.
Dermiset is used for certain skin diseases mainly characterized by skin thickening. It is indicated in the following cases:
- Eczema and corticosteroid-sensitive skin diseases characterized by hyperkeratosis and/or the formation of scaly cells.
- Psoriasis, excluding large psoriatic plaques.
- Lichenification of the skin.
- Neurodermatitis.
- Lichen planus.
- Keratoderma palmoplantaris (palmoplantar hyperkeratosis).
Do not use Dermiset:
If you are allergic to salicylates (aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) or to any of the excipients:
- Ulcers
- Acne
- Rosacea
- Viral skin infections (chickenpox, herpes, herpes zoster), bacterial (impetigo), fungal infections (confirmed by microscopic examination) or parasitic infections.
- Do not apply to the face unless prescribed by your doctor.
- Application on the eyelids
- Application on mucous membranes
- If in doubt, do not hesitate to consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Warnings and precautions:
This medicine should be used according to a doctor’s prescription:
- Do not use on the face unless prescribed by your doctor.
- Avoid applying the medicine to large areas or keeping it under occlusion (dressings), as partial absorption of the active substance into the bloodstream is possible.
- Avoid prolonged use on the face and in skin folds.
- Inform your doctor in case of any irritation or infection.
- During treatment, do not take oral medications containing aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
- Do not use the medicine together with other topical products containing salicylate derivatives.
- In case of contact with the eyes, rinse with clean water.
- Treatment over large areas or under occlusion, due to the high risk of corticosteroids entering the bloodstream, may cause systemic effects similar to therapy with oral or parenteral corticosteroids, as well as salicylate intoxication.
- If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Other medicines and Dermiset:
To avoid possible interactions with other medicines, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other treatments you are taking.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility:
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor.
- In general, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is recommended to consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
Driving and operating machines:No special safety precautions are required.
Dosage:
The dose is 1 to 2 applications per day.
Do not increase the number of daily applications.
Use approximately 1–2 ml of the cutaneous solution.
Always follow your doctor’s instructions.
Method and route of administration:
For cutaneous use.
Apply the skin solution to the affected areas.
Wash your hands after application.
Duration of treatment:
- Treatment should be discontinued gradually — by reducing the frequency of application and/or by using a less potent corticosteroid or reducing the dose.
- The duration of treatment should not exceed 4 weeks.
- Strictly follow your doctor’s prescription and do not prolong the treatment.
If you use more Dermiset than recommended:unpleasant symptoms may occur. In this case, stop using it and consult your doctor.
If you forget to use Dermiset:do not apply a double dose to make up for the missed dose. Apply the next dose as soon as possible.
If you stop using Dermiset:
- This will reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Treatment should be stopped gradually. Consult your doctor for advice on stopping Dermiset.
- If you have additional questions about the use of this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Possible side effects:
Dermiset can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them:
- Redness, burning sensation after application
- Due to the presence of corticosteroid:
- With prolonged use there is a risk of skin thinning and loosening, dilation of small blood vessels, stretch marks, and development of acne.
- Cases have been observed of excessive hair growth on the body, skin pigmentation disorders and secondary infections, especially during occlusive treatment or use in skin folds.
- In case of any suspicion, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
How to store Dermiset:
- Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
- This medicine should be stored at a temperature below 25°C.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
- The cap of the package should be carefully cleaned and tightly closed. After opening, the shelf life is 6 months.
- Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of unused medicines. These measures will help protect the environment.
