Composition
Active substance: Calcium atorvastatin propylene glycol solvate.
Excipients: Calcium acetate, croscarmellose sodium, sodium carbonate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, polyethylen
Hypolipidemic agent. HMG-Coenzyme A reductase inhibitors.
Reduction of cholesterol or other fat levels in the blood and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, including myocardial infarction, stroke.
The medicine should be taken in strict accordance with the doctor's prescription. During treatment, monitoring of cholesterol levels is required until it reaches safe limits. Treatment also includes exercise, diet, and giving up harmful habits. Apo-Atorvastatin is taken as a single dose, with or without food. Its administration is prohibited with grapefruit juice. It is desirable for the patient to take this medicine in the evening hours.
Adults:
The recommended initial dose of Apo-Atorvastatin is 10 or 20 mg once daily.
In patients requiring a significant reduction in low-density cholesterol levels, treatment starts with 40 mg once daily.
The dose of Apo-Atorvastatin may range from 10–80 mg once daily.
The maximum dose is 80 mg per day.
Children (10–17 years):
The recommended initial dose is 10 mg per day.
The maximum recommended dose is 20 mg per day.
Allergy to any substance constituting this medication.
Active liver disease or elevated liver enzyme activity of unknown origin.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Like most medications, interactions with other medicinal products are possible. The doctor or pharmacist should be informed about all medicines the patient is taking, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and natural remedies.
The following medicines primarily interact with Apo-Atorvastatin:
Corticosteroids, Cyclosporine.
Gemfibrozil, Fenofibrate or Bezafibrate, Niacin.
Erythromycin, Clarithromycin or other antifungal agents from the Azole group – Ketoconazole or Itraconazole.
Nefazodone.
Indinavir sulfate, Nelfinavir mesylate, Ritonavir, Saquinavir mesylate, Lopinavir or Ritonavir, Telaprevir, Tipranavir, Darunavir, Fosamprenavir, Boceprevir.
Fusidic acid.
Digoxin, Diltiazem.
Efavirenz, Rifampin.
Antacids and Apo-Atorvastatin should be taken with a 2-hour interval.
Colchicine.
Before taking Apo-Atorvastatin, the doctor or pharmacist should be informed if the patient:
Has thyroid problems.
Has suffered a stroke or transient ischemic stroke.
Regularly consumes 3 or more types of alcoholic beverages daily.
Is taking other cholesterol-lowering medications, such as fibrates, niacin, or ezetimibe.
Has a family history of musculoskeletal diseases.
Reports muscle problems that developed after taking medications such as: Atorvastatin, Fluvastatin, Lovastatin, Pravastatin, Rosuvastatin or Simvastatin, or has developed an allergy or intolerance to any of them.
Has liver or kidney problems.
Diabetes.
Has recently undergone surgery or other types of tissue damage.
Has heavy physical exertion.
Taking Apo-Atorvastatin may result in a slight increase in blood sugar levels. In this case, consultation with a doctor is necessary due to the risk of developing diabetes. The use of Apo-Atorvastatin has not been studied in patients under 10 years of age.
In case of a missed dose: It should be taken as soon as the patient remembers. However, if there is little time left before the next dose, the next dose should be taken instead of the missed dose. It is prohibited to take a double dose to compensate for a missed dose.
